Good engagement ring idea?

If your soon to be fiance is smart he would not marry a materialistic person like you. You state that you want to be surprised yet you set standards. You want the diamond ring however, you will only wear it during your engagement. Then later on after "we" got some money, get real diamonds (not a diamond). Why does he have to spend thousands of his own money ( for a materialistic thing) just to prove he loves you? I guess because he cares about you and respects you is not enough.
