Religion vs government question?

lets say a new holy text was found, and it was from the late jesus, and it had orders for his followers to partake in something that is today morally wrong and/or illegal. Many people with a strong faith would certanly do as told, how do you think the world would react? Would laws be changed due to the mes wanting so, or a religious person in government office? Or would the minority of people who dont follow jesus or anything like that have superiority? just wondering different opinions, with answers state your political and religious standpoints also , thanks
